3/4" 15V Bottom Bowl Gouge

The 3/4" Revolution Bottom Bowl Gouge is made from 15V steel and designed for finishing the interior bottom surfaces and side grain areas of bowls. Its beam shape—⅛" taller than wide—provides exceptional rigidity and vibration-free performance. Shipped with Stuart Batty’s 60/85™ grind, this gouge complements the 40/40™ Elliptical Bowl Gouge for complete bowl interior finishing.

Materials & Construction

The cutting edge is 15V tool steel, laminated to a heat-treated and hardened stainless steel substrate (45 HRC). This lamination process makes 15V viable for woodturning by bonding it to a tough stainless body that absorbs the long overhang demands of tool rest use. The hardened stainless steel bolster is reusable indefinitely.

Sharpening Guide

For best results, sharpen freehand on a grinding platform. Recommended abrasives include CBN wheels (180–320 grit), Norton SG Ceramic wheels, and 3M Trizact or Cubitron II belts. Stuart Batty’s 60/85™ grind is best achieved through freehand sharpening for accurate bevel angles across the flute profile.
