Challenge your turning skills with Boxes and Finials!
Join the fun as we explore the basics of turning boxes, learning skills that can be applied to many different shapes, sizes, and designs of box. We’ll focus on tool control and cutting technique as we make 4 different types of turned boxes, with and without finials.
Our first project will be a Pill Box. This basic box gets us familiar with the design and workflow of a turned box. Challenge your skills with an optional lid inlay.
I'll share with you my Finial turning methods for best success. Learn tool control, design, and proportion as you make a finial for the next project.
The Lidded Jewelry Bowl has room inside for your treasures, an easy-fit lid, and a fitted Finial.
We perfect our jam fitting and inlay skills with the Finial Box. The Finial and Box are made from the same piece of wood. An inlay and foot are made from contrasting wood.
The 3-sided Triangle Box takes us up a level in accuracy and tool control. It has a tenon insert for maximum grain match.
